Wonderfully accessorised with Lou's neon Cambridge satchel -

Tuti Fruti !

Hi!
I did these fruit cocktail dream boat nails a few days ago. These are a nail art technique called embedding,
as the fruit pieces and glitter are embedded beneath a layer or acrylic.
opposed to being just stuck on top.

The fruit pieces are from these fimo sticks that are kind of like a stick of rock,
as you cut thin slivers the image carries all the way through.

You can buy them ready cut like this

Or its cheaper to buy them like this and cut them yourself.
I bought this whole bag for £7 including P&P from ebay.
;

They are quite tricky to cut evenly, took me a while to start getting them right.
I found the best technique was to look through one eye, directly over the very edge and using
a very sharp scalpel shave off a think sliver.

After useing nail glue to stick down the fruit pices, I then filled the gap with pink glitter
and these shell shards also bought from ebay.

After applying the acrylic my nails looked like this, and needed allot of filing
and buffing to re-shape them and make the acrylic shine and go clear.

The finished effect was these fruity delights!
Perfect summer nails.

Charming....Or Not..

Evening all!

I have a conundrum! Are nail Charms;

A) Awesome, the (dangly & sparkly) cherry on top to a perfect mani?
Or
B) Bloody wrong, rubbish, yuk and super tacky?

Hhmmm!

I'm still pretty undecided myself. Nail charms mostly remind me of being 13, and spending all my pocket money in Claire's Accessories, mostly on tack - including packs of nail art charms, That we would then make holes for, through our natural nails with pins, I remember we were forever getting them caught and ripped off!! Ocuchh!! Definably a point to consider. I think if I was to go down the nail charm rout again, I would only make holes through acrylic nails. Less likely to break or hurt when broken!

I found these rather cute fruity lovely's on ebay! I definably would never rock a tacky gold dangly mermaid/star/unicorn or something equally as hideous. But these on the other hand (ha, is that a pun? Loosely I think) I could see going with a bright fruit cocktail mani - perfect for summer! Well until I got them caught in my  hair/bbq/fringed dress.. you never know!?

Now these beaut's I think are perfect, in every possible way! These are definably a A) Awesome!
Not really charms though are they? More like nail piercing! I think this is more of a modern take on the Claire's Accessories nail charms of 1999. These were done by NY based Manicurist Maki Sakamotao.
Think we might have to have a little go at these nail piercing!

Maki Sakamotao

Conclusion:
Nail charms = Wack
Nail Piercing =  Fierce

Ga Ga Ooh Lah La..!!

If you have every wondered who is behind Gaga’s amazing talons, its this pretty lady

Aya Fukuda
Aya did the nails for both music videos, 'Judas' and 'Born this Way', along with creating unique nails for Gaga's numerous events and magazine covers such as; NME, i-D and V Magazine.
Originally from Japan, Aya moved to NYC in 2008 and now works for beauty house call service Hair Room Service, and its from this that Aya got the call to do Lady Gaga's nails!

If you are lucky enough to live in New York you can book a session with Aya in the comfort of your own home, for your own Gaga manicure! with prices starting from $65, pretty reasonable for a celeb manicurist, don’t you think?
Aya really has Lady Gaga's bondage/ biker style down, loving the dangerous point and all the mean studs and chains.

"Lady Gaga gives me so much inspiration. When designing her nails I always keep in mind her eccentric yet glamorous style. When I come up with designs I feel represent her, I'll show Gaga and we go with them if she approves. Making nails for her is so much fun and truly a piece of art." Aya Fukuda

Born this Way Nails (above)
"I really loved what I did for Lady Gaga in Born this Way. I used a vibrant red  and black polish from Priti NYC and finished it off with Swarvovski crystals in jet color and silver metal" Aya Fukuda

The Hot 'Talon' Mani
"We call this shape the 'sexy Gaga shape.' Gaga wanted a very pointy, sexy-shaped nail, so I created this shape based on her request." Aya Fukuda

"My next big project is something I can't talk about just yet . . . The inspiration and ideas I come up with for Lady Gaga are endless. I already have so many new and fresh ideas which I have plans to use very soon." Aya Fukuda

Until then Aya has some pretty impressive other designs on her Web Site ayafukudanail.com, all in the similar bondage Gaga style,
Here is a little taste;

Lots of new nail Inspiration, and think I have been truly convinced to try the "Gaga sexy shape" myself, instead of the usual square shape.

Lots of Love Axx

♥ Weekend Wonders

Hola!

Hoping everyone had a lovely weekend! The weather was not the best in London town, the sun came out a little on Saturday, but mostly classic grey sky's Londres weather. Still had a wonderful weekend regardless, my amazing friend Ellie came to stay for the weekend ( she normally resides in trendy Hove.)

First we headed to Selfridges for a Lola cupcake and a latte, I wouldn't claim to be a cupcake expert but out of all the cupcakes I have tried Lola's cupcakes are my favorite, and they are massive! Went for peanut this time instead of my usual Red Velvet, and I wasn't  disappointed - the peanut butter buttercream was delicious, Ellie had classic Red Velvet which has cheesecake icing - so good!

After a quick browse round the shops and a pint of cider, we headed back to mine for some nail time!

I might of already mentioned before on here, but two weeks ago I started a college course on nail extensions, training specifically in acrylic. So Ellie agreed to be my first guinea pig!

I have practiced on myself a little and in the past have dabbled a bit in acrylic nails (with a kit from ebay.) But not really knowing exactly what I was doing, so I am classing this as my first official full set of acrylic extensions.

This is just after we applied the tips, before trimming them down into less ghetto fabulous talons!
Really how do those ladies of Dalston function? One word - Toilet!??

Ta-da!
This is the finished nails after lots of buffing, no polish that shine is made by pure peachy-elbow-grease!
They actually don't look as shinny in the pictures, but believe in the Glossyness!

So happy with the way these look for my first full set! And no air bubbles! which can happen if you don't stick the tip on correctly, little air bubbles can get in and apart from not looking nice (they make a lighter patch where the bubble is) the bubble can become moist and fungus can grow! ew! But no worries as we were bubble free.

The one big thing I mega need to improve on is TIME!

The whole process look me hours to complete, you could say days! but we didn't start till about six on Saturday, and we where going to the in2u tattoo shop party with my boyfriend that evening, so had to stop at about 9pm to eat, get ready ect. I did finish everything though in those 3 hours apart from painting them.

My tutor can do a full set in 45 minutes! This is the dream! Hmmm need to be 2 hours and 15 minutes faster,  better find some more willing friends for practice then!

On Sunday, even in my hungover state, this is how commitment I am to the cause!
We moved on to stage 2 - Nail Art.

Ellie was up for something quite "Carmen Miranda," (I learnt from Ellie this is another saying for OTT) So we opted for Japanese 3D look nails.

I used Nails Inc - Haymarket for the tips, then an assortment of pearls, lilac gem's, gem hearts, Hello Kittys -  thumbs and lilac roses - index finger's. Nice and eye catching - just how I like my nails! Ellie said on the train home she has lots of admirers/stares.

Super happy with these and an amazing weekend!

Love A xx
